I've dealt with power outages before. I grew up in Florida, with hurricanes acting as visiting relatives, and throughout my childhood came to expect internet disconnections as natural occurrences. But having my refrigerator randomly break down, no warning sign, no prelude, nearly broke my heart.
Oh, fridge. I have mostly treated you well.
I have cleaned you occasionally and supplied you and overstocked you with various and delicious items.
Why would thou betray me?
The freezer, overrun with glorious meats and treats;
small stashes of pestos, herbs, pico de gallos,
leftover baggies of sauces, cream-of-whatevers, canned anything,
all of the meats and waffles and vegetables to my heart's desire.
The fridge, every nook and cranny stuffed with
juices, soda, wine, apple beer
vegetables, thawing meat, leftover fruit
Condiments Galore!
mayo, mustard, salad dressings never-ending
kung pao, orange, teriyaki sauce
salsas to the mind's extent.
UPDATE: It took one full week for our apartment complex to deal with and finally fix our broken refrigerator. There were many broken promises of new fridges and ignored requests and, at some times demands, but finally a maintenance dude came and after one hour, our fridge was working again! The plug HAS been moved from it's usual spot to a nearby wall plug (hindering my crock-pot and toaster usage), and we are a bit afraid to move it back due to electrical issues, but in all honesty we're just glad that the fridge is fixed and that they FINALLY also repaired the light issue. I can now see inside of the fridge!!!!
